Paladar Latin Kitchen And Rum Bar

This was our first experience at any Paladar restaurant. One of my husband's friends had recommended it, so we went as a family group of 11 to celebrate his birthday. The men ordered rum flights, and some of us ladies also ordered drinks. My daughter ordered a mojito, which we thought would be good in a rum bar, but she ultimately sent it back. The food we received was overall pretty good; I think everyone was satisfied with their selection. The problems were with our table, and with the service. Our party was crammed into a table with a wall on one side, and a large pillar at the other end. It was really cramped for 11 people (but the manager said they always seat parties of 12 there, with the drapes closed for privacy! Claustrophobia!) Please note that you cannot make reservations for more than 8 people on Open Table, so we made 2 separate reservations–but apparently you are supposed to call for larger parties. But by far, the worst part of this experience was the v e r y s l o w service. Our server took our drink orders, and then we didn't see her again for probably 20 minutes. The food took forever to come out, and our server didn't really check on us throughout the meal, so drinks were low. My daughter said that the server eventually did ask if we wanted dessert, but because of the table arrangement most of us didn't hear her. . .but we figured it would be another hour before we ever got it even if we did order it. I realize that large parties are hard, and the table arrangement didn't make it any easier.Overall, it was a fun place, and we will probably try it again, but the service really made it a more negative experience than it should have been. To be fair, the manager did come over, and she was very pleasant, and took one of the drinks and an appetizer off of our bill, which was nice. Maybe next time we'll try this with a smaller party size!
