4.8 We used Kitchen Chicks for both our rehearsal dinner (lobster bake) and wedding reception (we served a choice of scallops or beef). The food was amazing both nights – the best wedding food I have ever had. I also received many compliments on the staff and service (the bartender, unprompted, escorted an elderly relative across the grass field to the tent). They also put together beautiful table decor and flowers on Friday and lighting for both nights. The event coordinator, Kelly, never missed a beat and was on top of all of our requests. Kitchen Chicks were *very* flexible and creative, which I loved. We picked our “his and hers” cocktails for the reception at the last minute and KC completely accommodated us (and even came up with the “hers” drink themselves based on what I told them I liked). Kitchen Chicks also managed all our rentals (tent, tables, chairs, tableware, PA system, generator, porta-potty, AV-equipment), which was great. In general, Kitchen Chicks were very responsive, except during their busiest season in August and early September. This was somewhat stressful to me because our wedding was in late September, but things turned out beautifully regardless. We initially chose Kitchen Chicks because they had a good balance between being organized and creative and their proposal was least expensive. However, it was in the general ball park with other estimates (Aurora Provisions, Churchill Catered Events), and after adding decor and final alcohol and staffing prices, I think the pricing would have been the same as the others, but with how well everything went, I am completely satisfied with our choice. Good caterers are not unlike good magicians. They leave the crowd oohing and ahhing, wondering how they did it, and they make it all look easy. Kitchen Chicks, which recently celebrated its 10th year in business, is just such a caterer. Each year, owner Peggy Liversidge and her crew pull off dozens of weddings, birthday parties, family reunions, and other special events, working behind the scenes so guests and hosts can enjoy their special day. Liversidge also runs a retail shop, Cape Porpoise Kitchen, which offers prepared foods to go, wines, cheeses, and other items—fashioned, she says, “after a mini Balducci’s or Dean & DeLuca.” Kennebunk may be a seasonal market, but Liversidge keeps busy all year round. We recently caught up with her to chat about how she does it. Catering is a second career for you. How did that come about?I was in advertising when I got out of college. I worked in Boston, in an agency. But I was always interested in the events side of things; I was always drawn to parties and food. I met a woman at a Christmas party who had her own successful catering business, and I said, “I want to do that; I’dbe good at it.” I ended up getting a job with her, and when she abruptly got out of the business, a few of her friends and clients started calling me. I never considered myself an entrepreneur, but my husband, who’s my best friend, pushed me and nudged me and said you can do it. One of the keys is to hire people who are very good at what they do and empower them, have them work with you to maintain the brand. What is your “brand”?Delicious food served with finesse and expertise. We want to make every occasion feel like a special occasion. Whether it’s a wedding, a birthday, or a funeral, we’re serving, we’re cleaning, we’re watching the schedule, making sure that everything goes as well as it can go. We get thank-you notes from customers saying, “You thought of everything.” Do you think people expect regional flavors and flair from a catering company in Kennebunk? In summer, probably 40 percent of events involve some sort of lobster. We do lobster bakes for rehearsal dinners, and people have them for weddings, too. All our brides are destination brides, and they want that Maine experience. And as much as we can, we try to get locally sourced ingredients— vegetables, seafood, blueberries. What types of dishes or parties are trending in catering?Family style has been hot for a while. It’s a hard thing to execute, though, and we try to talk clients out of it. Seated dinners are coming back, because brides today are paying for the wedding themselves, and a seated dinner controls costs and lets people get to the party—the band and the dancing with friends—sooner. What’s your favorite kind of party to cater?I do love weddings. There’s nothing more gratifying than when you’re standing there at the end of the evening— you’re tired, but everyone is happy, and the mother of the bride is hugging you.We love it. 5.0 Kitchen Chicks Catering played a vital role in ensuring our wedding was beyond-our-imaginations-wonderful. The food was fresh, local and inspired; the menu was tailored to our tastes with accommodations for gluten-free & vegetarian guests and within our budget. It was not “wedding food”, it was on par with been top notch restaurant food as we were told by many, many of our foodie guests. In addition to fabulous food, KCC worked with us to pick a signature cocktail, wines and beers that we liked and fit with the food options and with the budget. Kelly handled all of our rentals – again, working with our tastes and budget. The service was above and beyond, they glided through the wedding ensuring all guests had a fabulous time. Kelly also did an amazing job with lighting, bringing sparkle and rustic ambiance to the evening. If looking for a caterer in Southern Maine, contact Kitchen Chicks Catering first. Category: Catering

4.8 Kitchen Chicks was amazing to work with! Not only was the food delicious, but working with their in-house wedding coordinator Sabin has been amazing. He was extremely helpful and always had good ideas/visions on how to make our wedding day special. Sabin coordinated the food, staff, venue as well as our rentals and our other vendors. Our day went perfectly because he was planned, organized and ready to go with the flow! Sabin and Kitchen Chicks were extremely flexible – even allowing us to make changes the day before our wedding. Our guests cannot stop talking about how delicious the food was (steak, salmon and chicken) and how all the meals for each table came out hot and at the same time! This company is truly a professional catering service that cares about their clients. Thank you! Category: Catering, Rehearsal Dinner Location, Wedding Cake, Wedding Planning
