Apr 25, 2017 “Server” Star Star Star Star Star Work/Life Balance Culture & Values Career Opportunities Comp & Benefits Senior Management Current Employee – Server in Tampa, FL Current Employee – Server in Tampa, FL Doesn’t Recommend Negative Outlook Disapproves of CEO I have been working at California Pizza Kitchen part-time (More than 5 years) Pros I have served many places and this is by far the easiest amount of work for the most amount of money. As a server I have used tip bucket and normally average 18-20 in tips per hour for each month. It's easy picking up and giving up shifts. They schedule based on performance and very little politics when giving sections. There are a few employees who do get whatever they want but they have been there for 5 plus years. Basic employee discounts and benefits. Seems like they are trying to sell the company again so that means they are raising prices and taking off menu items that make us different from other pizza places. Cons Small restaurant and annoying when you have to work with a lot of people on the weekends. The company acts like it has culture but it doesn't. They think remodeling the store creates a laid back California atmosphere but they cram as many tables in the dining room as they can and its a tight fit making everyone uncomfortable. They are clearly looking for profits. The company was in the red for like 8 years and finally have been green due to increased menu prices year after year however customer count has gone down. Wonder why?!? They take all the good stuff off the menu so they can cut corners on ordering and prepping labor. Brandon mall closed because the mall wouldn't renew their lease because they themselves saw it was so slow. Advice to Management Stop taking short cuts. If your about the guest experience don't just comp food, but hold servers and management responsible for their experience and stop putting lame general managers in charge. I don't know why anyone comes here. I have been here multiple times and sometimes I enjoy my experiences and sometimes I don't. The best meal here is by far the ribeye. I thought a restaurant called California Pizza Kitchen would have terrible ribeye. Apparently though, one of the worst things here is the pizza! My last experience here was truly awful and if I based my review on that alone it would probably get one star. The pizza is so bad. It's not fresh at all and packaged into little dough balls. It's so bland and tasteless and they barely put anything on it to make it substantial. Don't get the pizza here, anyone who likes it needs to have there taste buds checked. Another think I did not like here was the macaroni and cheese. I usually actually like the Mac and cheese, but last time I checked it's really bad. The pasta was so soggy and it tasted like nothing. The last thing I got was the original BBQ chicken salad. I'm not even going to waste my time talking about that. The point is food you expect to be good here isn't good at all and the food that you would never think to order at a CPK is actually very good. The service is a mess. They are terrible at timing. The don't know when to serve the food at all. Five minutes after they gave me my bread and drinks, they brought out the Mac and cheese, cheese pizza, and salad. That is actually unbelievable. I mean what teacher give there student a test five minutes after they learn the lesson. I will admit my waiter was a pretty nice guy though. Overall, such an overrated restaurant chain. I am very hesitant to come back. The best way to describe CPK is inconsistent. It has some good food but only things you would never even think about ordering at a “pizza” place. If you ever come here just get the ribeye, you will be a lot happier with yourself.

The BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad is a staple at CPK. There is too much cilantro in the recipe, but it's a crowd pleaser nonetheless. Not a fan of avocado added on to the salad. Recommendation: if you order to-go, request that they give you more BBQ sauce containers (2-3 extra). The normal is one small, half-filled container, which isn't enough to coat the whole salad. I'd also ask for more ranch dressing too (just in case). The Baked Potato soup is also quality (for a high-ish end pizza chain), with chunks of potato soup. It's good, but not as good as their old Potato Leak soup, which they discontinued a while back. I used to really like the pizza, but maybe my food tasters have changed (or the quality has gone down). The crust is very doughy and the actual topping portion of the pizza is too small. Speaking of which, I think the diameter of the pizza has gotten small since or late (not sure about this).
